<p>So I use a piece of software called Audacity to edit all the podcasts I&#8217;m a part of. In this entry, I&#8217;ll illustrate and explain some of the settings I use for the filters and other plugins.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator alignwide has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-full"><img data-recalc-dims="1" fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="470" height="402" src="https://i0.wp.com/wchouser3.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/noise-reduction.png?resize=470%2C402&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-69" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/wchouser3.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/noise-reduction.png?w=470&amp;ssl=1 470w, https://i0.wp.com/wchouser3.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/noise-reduction.png?resize=300%2C257&amp;ssl=1 300w" sizes="(max-width: 470px) 100vw, 470px" /></figure>

<p>First things first &#8211; select the audio you want to use for the envelope for noise reduction, get the profile, then apply these settings and run on entire waveform.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator alignwide has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-full"><img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" width="508" height="357" src="https://i0.wp.com/wchouser3.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/noise-gate-echo-killer.png?resize=508%2C357&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-71" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/wchouser3.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/noise-gate-echo-killer.png?w=508&amp;ssl=1 508w, https://i0.wp.com/wchouser3.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/noise-gate-echo-killer.png?resize=300%2C211&amp;ssl=1 300w" sizes="(max-width: 508px) 100vw, 508px" /></figure>

<p>Once you have your noise reduced, you may find you still have some audio wierdness. The Noise Gate can help remove some of that. These settings for example can reduce some of the echoing caused by microphones picking up sound from the headphones.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator alignwide has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-full"><img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" width="508" height="357" src="https://i0.wp.com/wchouser3.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/super_echo_killer.png?resize=508%2C357&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-111" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/wchouser3.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/super_echo_killer.png?w=508&amp;ssl=1 508w, https://i0.wp.com/wchouser3.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/super_echo_killer.png?resize=300%2C211&amp;ssl=1 300w" sizes="(max-width: 508px) 100vw, 508px" /></figure>

<p>If after the first noise gate, you&#8217;re still getting echo, use these settings as they are more aggressive. It helps to have good quality audio before using a noise gate like this.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator alignwide has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-full"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="482" height="281" src="https://i0.wp.com/wchouser3.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/compress-dynamics.png?resize=482%2C281&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-72" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/wchouser3.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/compress-dynamics.png?w=482&amp;ssl=1 482w, https://i0.wp.com/wchouser3.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/compress-dynamics.png?resize=300%2C175&amp;ssl=1 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 482px) 100vw, 482px" /></figure>

<p>This is an excellent Nyquist plugin which does not ship with Audacity by default. You can get it by following <a href="https://theaudacitytopodcast.com/chriss-dynamic-compressor-plugin-for-audacity/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">this link</a>. Once it&#8217;s installed, apply these settings, and all of your wave forms will be on pointe with each other in terms of volume and compression.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator alignwide has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-full"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="604" height="169" src="https://i0.wp.com/wchouser3.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Screenshot-from-2024-01-13-23-52-41.png?resize=604%2C169&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-107" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/wchouser3.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Screenshot-from-2024-01-13-23-52-41.png?w=604&amp;ssl=1 604w, https://i0.wp.com/wchouser3.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Screenshot-from-2024-01-13-23-52-41.png?resize=300%2C84&amp;ssl=1 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 604px) 100vw, 604px" /></figure>

<p>You may import a clip into your project that was made with way too much volume (clipping) to fix the problem run the &#8220;clip fix.&#8221;</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator alignwide has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-full"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="313" height="331" src="https://i0.wp.com/wchouser3.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/truncate-silence.png?resize=313%2C331&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-73" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/wchouser3.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/truncate-silence.png?w=313&amp;ssl=1 313w, https://i0.wp.com/wchouser3.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/truncate-silence.png?resize=284%2C300&amp;ssl=1 284w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 313px) 100vw, 313px" /></figure>

<p>You may want to select your waveforms and apply this effect which will remove all awkward silence. Apply these settings for best results.</p>

<p>So I&#8217;m running this website on a Raspberry Pi 0 &#8211; not the Pi 0 2 &#8211; the original one. The pain is because this pi is a single core, 512MB of RAM tiny single board computer about the third the size of a credit card. Although the speed leaves some to be desired, I have to say this is a capable little device for running single tasks. </p>

<p>People who get frustrated with the speed of some of these little machines fail to remember what it was like 15 to 20 years ago when you had to wait for everything to load. It was literally a fact of life.</p>

<p>Well the experience isn&#8217;t perfect, but I&#8217;m not dissatisfied with the performance. I am glad to find a use for the $15 device.</p>

<p>So the other day I had a rather clumsy conversation with a friend where I tried to explain the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poincar%C3%A9_recurrence_theorem" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Poincaré recurrence theorem</a>. I attempted to explain the concept based on a video I saw recently where the example was presented of a completely sealed box. Inside the box is an apple. Mind you &#8211; nothing can get in, and nothing can get out. Presumably it the box is left alone, the contents while changed will remain somewhat there. The Poincare recurrence postulates that &#8212;&#8212;will finish later</p>

<p>For now, have a look at this video. I&#8217;d be interested in your thoughts.</p>
